Appearances,
important?
A few principles to keep in
mind:
- Do not forget that when you come to church you come
before the Most Holy God together with your brothers and sisters. An
audience before a human dignitary would probably keep you up all night
fretting about what you’re going to wear, what you’re going to say, how
you’re going to behave. Realize that you’re coming before the King of
kings and Lord of lords. You cannot have an “everything goes” attitude
when it comes even to such a small (some might think) detail as how you
dress for church.
- Do not forget that God is your Savior but also
your Lord (Master), and not just on Sunday but on all days of the week
and not just Lord of spiritual matters but also Lord of practical aspects.
The way you dress is definitely part of that.
- In all things, we should strive to bring glory
to our God.
Caveats:
- Don’t take the idea that this is not a crucial issue
to mean total license as far as what to wear. Moderation is a good
approach in this respect. We have to show wisdom.
